Short Summary
We are currently working on several pedestrian, bike, and transit projects aimed at improving safety and connectivity in our community, including new sidewalks and safe routes to schools. If you have suggestions for new sidewalk projects, please complete the provided form, and stay tuned for updates on project statuses, expected completion dates, and opportunities to engage in public meetings.
Detailed Summary
We have several important updates regarding pedestrian, bike, and transit projects in our town. If you have suggestions for new sidewalk projects, please take a moment to fill out the sidewalk request form available on our website. We are committed to enhancing safe routes to school, and your input is vital in prioritizing these projects. One of the significant initiatives currently underway is the Downtown Safe Routes to School project, which is focused on improving access for students attending Baucom Elementary and Thales Academy K-5. This project will complete pedestrian routes to key bus stops and includes necessary improvements at intersections. The right-of-way acquisition is complete, and we expect to advertise for bids in Spring 2026. For more details, please reach out to Adam Stephenson at the Town of Apex. Additionally, we are working on multiple sidewalk projects across town to fill in gaps and enhance safety for students walking to school. These include sidewalks on Hinton and Saunders Streets, as well as W Chatham Street, N Hughes Street, and S Mason Street, all of which are in various stages of design or acquisition. Each of these projects aims to improve connectivity and safety for our children and residents. If you have questions or want to learn more about specific projects, feel free to contact the respective project leads mentioned in the updates.

Tingen Road Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge/Tunnel Crossing (BO-2416)

For more information on this project, visit the project website
at
www.apexnc.org/tingen

The Tingen Road crossing of the CSX S-line railroad tracks is required to be
permanently closed under the Town's Corridor Master Agreement with CSX and
NCDOT once the Apex Peakway Southwest Connector Bridge is open to traffic in
2027. In order to plan for the possibility of future bicycle and pedestrian
connectivity across the railroad tracks in this location, the project will
first conduct a feasibility study to evaluate bridge design options as well as
options for going under the railroad and then select a preferred alternative.
The feasibility study will inform the Town to make a decision on whether or
not to move forward with final design plans and pursue construction funding.
